Subtractive Lighting

Responding to the same casting call, I was working with Lady Rosetta AKA the Costume Queen. The twist here was using masks and outfits.

For this I did start out with dramatic lighting in mind.

For this image, I used a subtractive lighting technique. A large octa was to camera left, with a black panel camera right to absorb any light spill and to add a dark edge. I wanted the edges to be dark and some absorption into the background to occur.

Subtractive Light

We were working with the mirror (getting the reflection – which turned out to be successful) when I did the simple beauty shot you see here.
