I have mentioned before that I am participating in the “pro” version of Project 52. The assignment I just completed was to collect a “tear sheet” of images I would like to shoot, and then shoot one.

First of all, this is a great idea. Rather than copying someone’s work (which is impossible anyway), it is a loosely structured method of keeping the brain engaged. It is also an indicator of what current trends are, and what is selling.

The image i chose was an ad shot for a perfume company. What drew me to it was the chiaroscuro. I was also intrigued by how I would replicate this in studio. I decided on using a cookie to help simulate a window. I’ve shot with a cookie before, but on the background. I have never used it on they key, and wanted to try it. I’m glad I did.

I also shot a fashion image. I went with softer light, and wished I had used my Maxi Lite when reviewing the images. The lighting was nice (maybe too nice), which is more my style but the inspiration piece was punchier.

I also shot right up against the cyc, which is something I rarely do. I like it. I want to do more of it.
