This was an assignment for the Lighting Essentials 52 project I am working on.
The base image was simplicity itself. Well, except for the makeup. Rachel , per my request, came up with some great makeup.
The base image was lit with an Elinchrom Quadra in the Deep Octa, with just the inner baffle. There was a B800 in a medium softbox camera left and behind, to provide rim. I normally would have used a gridded strip box, but I had enough room to place the softbox. It is parallel to the model, throwing most of its light past her.
Using a softbox in this way also provided some fill to the opposite side of her face.
The flames were done using a technique I learned from Obsidian Dawn.
